Gear worth a closer look

A towable is only one part of the system. Before leaving home, check the tube, inflation equipment, rope, connector, boat, rider equipment, and local rules together. Product instructions and applicable boating laws take priority over this general checklist.

1. Confirm rider count and combined weight

Read both limits. A tube rated for two riders can still be overloaded when the riders’ combined weight exceeds the published maximum.

2. Check the boat and tow point

Use a towing point and boat configuration approved for tow sports. Review the boat and tube manufacturer instructions before attaching anything.

3. Match the tow rope to the load

Use a tow-sports rope rated for the number of riders and the intended load. Inspect it for cuts, abrasion, damaged hardware, and knots before each outing.

4. Verify the connector

Confirm the connector is compatible with the tube’s tow point and the rope. Follow its attachment instructions and make sure the connection is fully seated before launch.

5. Bring a suitable pump

Check the valve type and power source. The Prowler starter kit includes a 12V pump and tow rope; other tube listings may not include them.

6. Inflate to the manufacturer’s specification

Underinflation can change handling and increase flex, while overinflation can stress seams. Use the published procedure and recheck pressure as temperature changes.

7. Inspect the complete tube

Check the cover, bladder, valve, tow point, handles, stitching, seating surfaces, and any zippers. Do not use damaged equipment.

8. Prepare every rider

Use properly fitted, approved personal flotation devices and follow age, supervision, observer, speed, and operating rules for the location. Explain hand signals and the stop procedure before leaving the dock.

9. Plan retrieval and storage

Know how the tube will return to the boat, where it will sit while underway, and how it will dry after use. Measure the deflated package and reserve a dry storage location at home.
